NATIONAL GOALS and FEDERAL ASSURANCES

Like all Community Action Agencies, Cattaraugus Community Action, Inc., designs its programs, services, and outreach efforts around the specific needs of the local community, and around six National Goals. These are:

NATIONAL GOAL #1:
(Self-Sufficiency)
Low Income People Will Become More Self-Sufficient
NATIONAL GOAL #2:
(Community Revitalization)
The Conditions in Which Low Income People Live are Improved
NATIONAL GOAL #3: Low Income People Own a Stake in Their Community
NATIONAL GOAL #4: Partnerships Among Supporters and Providers of Services to Low Income People are Achieved
NATIONAL GOAL #5:
(Capacity Building)
Agencies Increase Their Capacity to Achieve Results
NATIONAL GOAL #6:
(Family Stability)
Low Income People, Especially Vulnerable Populations, Achieve their Potential by Strengthening Family and Other Supportive Systems
The results of the agency's activities are centered around these federal assurances for customers:
  1. Self-Sufficiency: to remove obstacles and solve problems that block the achievement of self sufficiency
  2. Employment: to secure and retain meaningful employment
  3. Education: to attain an adequate education, with particular attention toward improving literacy skills of the low income families in the communities involved, which may include carrying out family literacy initiatives
  4. Income Management: to make better use of available income
  5. Adequate Housing: to obtain and maintain adequate housing and a suitable living environment
  6. Emergency Assistance: to obtain emergency assistance through loans, grants, or other means to meet immediate and urgent family and individual needs
  7. Greater Participation: to achieve greater participation in the affairs of the communities involved
  8. Coordination: to make more effective use of, and to coordinate with, other programs including welfare reform efforts
  9. Youth Development: to address the needs of youth in low income communities through youth development programs that support the primary role of the family, give priority to the prevention of youth problems and crime, and promote increased community coordination and collaboration in meeting the needs of youth. To support the development and expansion of innovative community based youth programs that have demonstrated success in preventing or reducing youth crime.
  10. Nutrition: the provision of such supplies and services, nutritious foods, and related services, as may be necessary to counteract conditions of starvation and malnutrition among low income individuals.
